(Diving Into) The Deep End

Chapter 1

Swoosh! Whir! The sound of water rushing pass my ears drowns out the voices above. The world around me disappears and it’s just me and the pool.

After swimming my usual ten laps, I stay at the edge of the pool, treading water.

“Leah! That was awesome!” my teammate (slash) best friend, Faye screams, as she swims up next to me, having already completed her own five warm up laps.

I smile. “Thank you.”

Clap! Clap! Clap!

Faye and I turn around to see a guy in the top corner of the bleachers staring down at us; watching us. He slowly makes his way to the pool deck above us. As he gets closer, I can see how absolutely beautiful he is.

This gorgeous stranger has short light brown hair, styled a little like Brad Pitt, which is just begging for some pool water. His muscular shoulders and arms are evidence of the swimmer in him. Long lashes outline his almond shaped sea green eyes. Perfect, straight, white teeth hide behind his clearly defined, full lips. To top it all off, he has a great tan; the kind that makes his skin look extra soft, and I can only wish to brush my fingers against it.

Faye and I exchange interested, but confused, looks. This guy definitely does not go to school here, but can’t be much older than us, maybe twenty at the oldest.

“Ladies. I have got to say, you girls have skill.”

“Thank you, but who are you?” Faye asks, getting straight to the point.

“Forgive my manners. Please. I am Javier Dominguez. Your new swim coach.”
